Engaging the Whole School Community in Prevention

In order to successfully meet the essential elements of comprehensive school-based programs, prevention practitioners must obtain buy-in and build partnerships with the whole school community. Programs should serve as a trusted resource, identify champions and allies, pursue shared goals, and facilitate effective meetings to prevent violence and create a culture of consent on campus.

ADL’s (Anti-Defamation League) education department works with schools to provide anti-bias education and offers tools to help create more inclusive school climates through the No Place for Hate® program. This web conference will provide resources, tools, and best practices to work with stakeholders at schools, facilitate anti-bias initiatives and schoolwide events, work in consultation with school leadership, and scaffold anti-bias topics across the whole school community tailoring messaging to students, teachers, and parents. Participants will be able to draw from ADL’s tenure with the No Place for Hate program to develop their own expertise in engaging whole school communities for social change.

At the end of the web conference, participants will be able to:

Describe best practices for assessing school community, including gathering already available data, school climate surveys, youth leadership groups, and other strategies.

Describe best practices for tailoring messaging to adult stakeholders and gatekeepers on school campuses.

Identify implementation strategies to integrate anti-bias education and campaigns campus-wide and throughout the academic year.
